Fear of being devoured 2022
It presents a photo album with personal images of her childhood taken thirty years later. This gesture of historical and temporal reappropriation is not intended to repair the violence she suffered in her early years, but is a form of rebellion against the fragility she experienced as a child. To be able to establish a new visual narrative through the photographic archive also means giving voice to her testimony that she silenced out of fear, a fierce fear that, as the title of the work suggests, implies the terror of being devoured by a hostile and authoritarian adult world. If for many years Estefania fled from her pain and her memories, with this work she has chosen to remain in her condition as a battered woman as a form of resistance not only personal but also political, to a society in which violence against women is still very present and occurs mainly within the home.
